"Swann is blooming on the global scene" according to 'The Weekend Australian'

As part of a liftout focussing on Australian businesses that are succeeding on the world stage, Swann Communications was profiled by 'The Weekend Australian' newspaper (28-29 May 2005) recently. The article detailed the company's small scale beginnings through to its current international expansion and featured an interview with founder and chairman, David Swann.
The profile began by saying, 'From simple beginnings when David Swann started working from home with one computer and an old modem, he has grown a company now known as Swann Communications, exporting his own equipment and distributing those of other companies on a global scale'. David added, '"I thought about what to do and I built computers with modems. Then my wife insisted that I get an office or factory. So I then started importing modems and selling to the likes of Dick Smith, Harvey Norman and others."'
David continued, '"My daughter designed really good packaging and we now have a team of graphic artists. In a nutshell, our packaging is the secret that tells the story of the product and we have always been innovative in the marketing sense...We are committed to the development and support of new communication technologies and at the same time providing our customers with simple and cost effective solutions...This commitment has seen us grow in product range and market share to become a strong player in the Australian and international market."'
The article focussed on the international nature of the business including offices in the US and distribution in the UK and South Africa. David continued, '"We are selling a lot of product to Radio Shack"'. David also mentioned Swann's progression in the UK '"where my son, Tim, started off selling Macintosh modems, and now we are selling security products there."'
'"We have developed positive relationships with Australia's largest resellers and the distribution list continues to grow"', he added.
The paper's conclusion was another quote from David, '"As an Australian company it is about surrounding ourselves with good people constantly looking for good products and trying new ways of doing things in close cooperation with retailers and point of sale"'.
