If you just want to have 8 cameras set up for live viewing, then this system works well, and is a good value. However, if you want to use the MyDVR software to access the DVR via a 100Mbps LAN or the internet, beware. The user interface is dreadfully slow, and much more difficult to use than it should be. It can take hours to access a 5-minute video clip showing a theft or other crime. The AVI files generated are not compatible with Windows Media Player. The video is compressed at least 100:1, which leads to loss of detail and compression artifacts. Not a D-1 recorder at all. My old VHS analog recorder had much greater recording and playback capacity. This could be a 4-star product with good software, but it isn't to that level of performance yet, and may never be. Has a lot of potential, but at present is very disappointing.

I had a friend of mine instal the cameras for me. I love the system. It does what it is suppose to do. The software takes a bit of learning but overall with the help of the support team at Swann, we worked it out.

I like this product because I can see who is coming to my house when I am not home and I can look on my iPad to check to make sure my home is safe.
